Real Madrid 4 – 1 Las Palmas
After conceding the fastest goal in 13 years, Real Madrid bounced back to score four goals, although three more were ruled out for offside.
Just 30 seconds into the match, they conceded a goal. Shortly after, Brahim Diaz missed an incredible chance. However, after a shaky start, Real Madrid turned things around spectacularly! Kylian Mbappé led the way with a brace, and two of his teammates also got on the score sheet. Carlo Ancelotti’s side triumphed 4-1 over Las Palmas, taking them to the top of La Liga.
In the second half, Las Palmas played with one less player for a significant portion of the game, though no goals were scored during this time. Real Madrid’s dominance could have resulted in a bigger margin, with three more goals ruled offside. Las Palmas’ goalkeeper, Jasper Cillessen, made nine saves in the match.
Throughout the game, Real Madrid took 26 shots, with 13 on target. Las Palmas only managed two shots on target from six attempts.
After Fabio Silva gave Las Palmas an early lead, Mbappé scored twice in the first half, with Brahim Diaz also finding the net. In the second half, Rodrygo added a fourth.
Real Madrid earned back-to-back big wins following a 5-2 loss to Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final and a 5-2 Copa del Rey win over Real Betis last Thursday.
With 46 points from 20 matches, Real Madrid now sits at the top of La Liga. Atletico Madrid, who lost the previous day, is in second with 44 points, and Barcelona is third with 39 points.
The game kicked off with a shock, as Las Palmas stunned Real Madrid just 28 seconds into the match. Fabio Silva’s goal came after a pass from Sandro Ramírez, avoiding an offside trap to score. It was the fastest goal conceded by Real Madrid since September 2011, when they conceded after just 15 seconds against Rayo Vallecano.
Brahim Diaz had a golden opportunity to equalize in the third minute, but he shockingly missed from close range. Real Madrid came close to conceding again in the fifth minute when Silva missed the target with a curled shot.
In the 18th minute, Mbappé equalized with a calm penalty after Rodrigo was fouled in the box. This season, Mbappé has scored four goals from the penalty spot, tied with Ante Budimir of Osasuna for the most in La Liga.
Between the 26th and 30th minutes, Cillessen denied Real Madrid with three impressive saves. In the 33rd minute, Mbappé’s shot from outside the box was saved, but Brahim Diaz scored off a pass from Lucas Vázquez, giving Real Madrid the lead.
Three minutes later, Mbappé doubled the lead, finishing a quick counter-attack with a right-footed shot. In the 42nd minute, his attempt for a hat-trick was ruled offside after a VAR review.
Before halftime, another of Mbappé’s shots hit the post.
In the second half, Real Madrid made it 4-1 in the 57th minute. Rodrygo scored from a pass by Fran García, and in the 64th minute, Las Palmas suffered a blow when Benito Ramírez was sent off with a red card for a foul on Vázquez.
In the 73rd minute, Jude Bellingham thought he had scored, but it was ruled out by VAR due to an offside during the build-up. David Alaba made his comeback after 13 months of recovery, replacing Antonio Rüdiger.
In the 86th minute, Federico Valverde scored a brilliant shot, but it was also ruled offside. Las Palmas’ goalkeeper saved Bellingham’s shot in the final moments.
With 22 points from 20 matches, Las Palmas is currently in 14th place in La Liga.
