After losing four consecutive matches across all competitions, the German club has sacked their head coach.
A string of defeats left Nuri Şahin’s future at Borussia Dortmund hanging by a thread. Following their Champions League loss to Bologna, the German club decided they could no longer place their trust in the Turkish coach, officially parting ways with him.
On Tuesday night, Dortmund fell to a 2-1 defeat against Italian side Bologna in the Champions League. The very next day, the club announced the end of their association with Şahin.
Şahin had taken charge of Dortmund in July last year following Edin Terzić’s resignation. However, his journey with the Bundesliga club lasted just seven months.
Dortmund’s performance in the first half of the season wasn’t particularly impressive, but things took a turn for the worse this year, ultimately costing Şahin his job.
The team has lost their last three league matches in a row. Out of 18 games, Dortmund has managed only seven wins, along with four draws, leaving them in 10th place with 25 points.
In the Champions League, last season’s runners-up started well, but they’ve now lost their last two matches. With four wins from seven matches, they sit in 13th place with 12 points.
