Manchester United 1 – 0 Fulham
This hard-fought victory pushed Ruben Amorim’s team two spots up the league table.
There was no sign of improvement in performance, but fortune finally smiled on Manchester United. Thanks to luck, they managed to scrape past Fulham.
On Sunday night, United claimed a 1-0 win in their Premier League clash at Fulham’s ground. The only goal came from Lisandro Martinez.
After being humiliated by Brighton, a relatively weaker opponent, at home just a week ago, United coach Ruben Amorim had described his squad as “the worst team in club history.” However, even after such criticism, the likes of Fernandes and Garnacho failed to showcase their potential, managing just one shot on target throughout the match.
Still, a win is a win, and United finally tasted victory after a stumble in their inconsistent Premier League campaign. With 29 points from 23 matches, they climbed to 12th place in the table.
Fulham sits 10th with 33 points, just 4 ahead of United.
Neither team is in the title race, with Liverpool leading the pack with 53 points from 22 matches.
United struggled from the beginning against Fulham, a team of similar caliber to Brighton. Their first-half attacks lacked sharpness, with only one attempt before the break, and even that wasn’t on target.
On the other hand, while Fulham wasn’t overly aggressive, they kept United under pressure. They took five shots in the first half, two of which were on target.
In the second half, Fulham’s attacking intensity waned, and United focused on maintaining possession. Then, in the 78th minute, the visitors finally managed their first shot on target—and it turned into the decisive goal.
World Cup-winning Argentine defender Lisandro Martinez unleashed a powerful shot from outside the box after intercepting the ball. It deflected off Fulham midfielder Sasa Lukic, changing direction mid-air and floating into the net. Goalkeeper Bernd Leno couldn’t react in time.
Fulham almost equalized with just two minutes of regulation time left. Rodrigo Muniz’s brilliant header was cleared off the goal line by midfielder Toby, keeping United in the lead. The visitors then defended resolutely to secure their eighth victory of the season.
