First-Half Blitz
Just like in their last meeting, Barcelona struck early, scoring in the 3rd minute. Alejandro Balde delivered a pinpoint pass from the left, and Torres finished with a low first-time shot. Out of respect for his former club, the 24-year-old did not celebrate.
In the 17th minute, Torres doubled his tally. Raphinha set up Yamal in the box, whose shot deflected off the keeper’s foot and hit the post. The rebound fell perfectly to Torres, who smashed it home. The goal was initially ruled offside, but VAR overturned the decision.
Barcelona made it 3-0 in the 23rd minute. Pedri played a brilliant through ball into the box, where Fermín López calmly dribbled past the keeper before finishing.
A minute later, Valencia almost pulled one back, but Wojciech Szczęsny made a fantastic diving save to deny Pepelu’s low shot.
Torres completed his hat-trick in the 30th minute. Pedri’s cross found Raphinha, who laid it off just outside the box. Torres took control and drilled a low shot into the net, making it 4-0. Frustrated, some Valencia fans started leaving the stadium.
Barcelona Seals the Rout
- Barcelona dominated the second half as well.
- In the 52nd minute, Yamal hit the post.
- A minute later, his shot was saved by the keeper.
In the 59th minute, Yamal finally got his goal. Raphinha’s skillful pass set him up, and his shot deflected off a defender into the net to make it 5-0.
Valencia’s goalkeeper prevented further humiliation in the 76th minute, making a one-on-one save against Dani Olmo and later denying Yamal again in the 84th minute.
