For the upcoming match against India, Bangladesh has announced a preliminary squad of 38 players, including six new faces.
Ahead of the third-round qualifiers for the Asian Cup against India, Bangladesh coach Javier Cabrera has named the preliminary squad. Along with Hamza Choudhury, who is on loan at Sheffield United, five new players from the domestic league have received call-ups.
In the squad, local players making their first appearance include goalkeeper Sakib Al Hasan, defender Zahid Hasan Shanto, midfielder Fahamedul Islam, and forwards Arif Hossain and Al Amin.
Bangladeshi-born Hamza Choudhury is naturally included in the squad. However, it’s still unclear whether the Sheffield United loanee will be able to join the camp before the India match.
Defender Bishwanath Ghosh, who has undergone surgery on his foot, faces uncertainty regarding his participation this season. As expected, he has not been included in Cabrera’s preliminary squad.
Due to contractual issues, Jamal Bhuiyan was unable to play in the first phase of the league but is expected to feature for Brothers Union in the second phase. He has also been included in the squad.
The second phase of the league will begin on February 21, and after one or two rounds, the Bangladesh team will start their camp for the match against India. Bangladesh will face India in Shillong on March 25.
