In the Champions League match, Carlo Ancelotti shared the good news of Lucas Vazquez’s return.
After a string of injuries, there seems to be a slight sense of relief in Real Madrid’s defense. Two of their key defenders, David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger, have shown signs of improvement in their fitness. If all goes well, coach Carlo Ancelotti hopes to have them available for the return leg of the Champions League playoff against Manchester City.
In their next match on Saturday, Real will face Osasuna in La Liga. At a press conference the previous day, Ancelotti also confirmed that, alongside Alaba and Rudiger, Lucas Vazquez would be making his comeback.
The Madrid squad has been struggling with injuries since the start of the season. Recently, they’ve had to play without their four main defenders: Dani Carvajal, David Alaba, Eder Militao, and Antonio Rudiger. Alaba, who had been sidelined for over a year, was injured again shortly after his return earlier this month. However, this time, the Austrian defender’s issue isn’t as severe.
At Friday’s press conference, Ancelotti was asked about the possibility of these three players returning. He replied, “Rudiger and Alaba’s fitness is improving. They will continue training individually and will be ready to play against Manchester City. Lucas Vazquez will also be ready.”
Despite having a patched-up defense, Real Madrid managed to make a comeback against City last week, winning 3-2. Now, with hopes of advancing to the Champions League quarter-finals, they will face the return leg at home next Wednesday.
Before that, they have another big test on Saturday against Osasuna, especially since they have failed to win their last two matches. The match will kick off at 9:15 PM Bangladesh time.
After 23 rounds, Real Madrid sits at the top of the table with 50 points, while Atletico Madrid follows closely behind with 49 points, and Barcelona is third with 48 points.
