Real Madrid 1 – 1 Osasuna
Carlo Ancelotti’s side remains winless for three consecutive La Liga matches.
Real Madrid lost their rhythm after Jude Bellingham’s red card. With a numerical advantage, Osasuna put pressure on the European giants and eventually won a penalty. Ante Budimir converted from the spot to secure a crucial point for his team.
The match ended in a 1-1 draw at Osasuna’s home ground on Saturday. Kylian Mbappé initially put Real Madrid ahead before Osasuna struck back.
This marks three straight La Liga games without a win for Ancelotti’s men, following a defeat to Espanyol and a draw against Atlético Madrid.
Real dominated possession with nearly 55%, registering 17 shots, five of which were on target. Osasuna managed 11 shots, with four hitting the target.
Real had an early chance in the third minute when Vinícius Júnior failed to direct his header on target from an Mbappé cross. Seven minutes later, Mbappé’s shot was brilliantly saved by Osasuna’s goalkeeper.
In the 15th minute, Mbappé put Real ahead, thanks to a fantastic assist from Fede Valverde. The Uruguayan, playing as a makeshift right-back due to multiple defensive absences, delivered a precise cross that Mbappé converted with a sliding finish.
Tensions ran high as Ancelotti received a yellow card in the 21st minute for arguing with the referee over a denied penalty appeal.
Thibaut Courtois made a brilliant save in the 28th minute, diving to keep out a powerful effort from Aimar Oroz.
Vinícius wasted a golden opportunity four minutes later, shooting straight at the goalkeeper from a perfect Mbappé cross.
Osasuna continued to threaten, and Courtois had to deny Juan Cruz in the 33rd minute. However, Real suffered a major blow six minutes later when Bellingham received a red card following an altercation with the referee. The replay showed no clear foul, suggesting he may have been dismissed for dissent.
The game intensified in the second half, with both sides attacking aggressively. In the 58th minute, Budimir equalized from the penalty spot after Eduardo Camavinga committed a foul. The decision came after a VAR review, leading to a sarcastic applause from Ancelotti on the sidelines.
Real had chances to regain the lead, but Mbappé hesitated too long on a one-on-one opportunity in the 73rd minute, allowing an Osasuna defender to recover. Vinícius also squandered a promising move by opting to shoot instead of passing.
In the 82nd minute, Luka Modrić failed to capitalize on Vinícius’ cross, missing his volley at the far post.
Both teams had last-minute chances. In stoppage time, Courtois denied a powerful header from Raúl García, and on the counterattack, Mbappé’s fierce strike was kept out by Osasuna’s goalkeeper.
With this result, Real Madrid risks dropping to third place in the standings.
They currently lead La Liga with 51 points from 24 matches, while Atlético Madrid sits second with 49 points from 23 games. Barcelona, with 48 points from the same number of matches, could also overtake them.
Osasuna climbs to seventh place with 32 points from 34 matches.
