Atlético Madrid 1 – 1 Celta Vigo

Atlético Madrid missed a golden opportunity to claim the top spot in LaLiga, settling for a 1-1 draw at home against Celta Vigo on Saturday.

The hosts faced an uphill battle almost from the start, as midfielder Pablo Barrios received a straight red card in the fourth minute for a reckless studs-up challenge on Pablo Durán.

Celta took advantage of their numerical superiority in the second half. Iago Aspas converted a 68th-minute penalty after Robin Le Normand brought down Borja Iglesias in the box. However, Atlético found a way back into the match. Substitute Alexander Sørloth struck in the 81st minute, finishing off a counterattack to salvage a crucial point for Diego Simeone’s side.

Real Madrid remain at the top of the table with 51 points after their 1-1 draw against Osasuna earlier in the day. Atlético sit one point behind in second place, while Barcelona, with a game in hand, are third on 48 points and will face Rayo Vallecano on Monday.
