Under Carlo Ancelotti’s coaching, Real Madrid has been facing quite a struggle this season.
Known for his calm demeanor, Ancelotti has built a reputation as a peaceful coach in the football world. However, even the experienced Italian manager has shown his fiery side on occasion. As Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois mentioned, Ancelotti has lost his temper several times with the team this season.
Real Madrid is having a tough time this season. They’ve gone winless in their last three La Liga matches and have dropped to second place after losing the top spot to Barcelona. In the season’s two encounters with Barcelona, they suffered heavy losses, 4-0 in La Liga and 5-2 in the Spanish Super Cup final. In the revamped Champions League, they’ve also lost to Lille, AC Milan, and Liverpool in the group stage.
They failed to secure a direct spot in the round of 16 in the Champions League, finishing outside the top eight. Now, they’ll have to play in the round of 16 playoffs, where they secured a 3-2 victory over Manchester City in the first leg. The return leg will take place on Wednesday at Santiago Bernabéu.
Courtois, who has worked with several coaches in his career, discussed the personalities of some of them on a podcast hosted by Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand.
“I’ve had coaches like (Antonio) Conte, who would scream like crazy,” said Courtois. “It’s really about personality. I think (Zinedine) Zidane was much calmer… Carlo (Ancelotti) is calm too, unless something really significant happens, like it did several times this season.”
“I like it though. I enjoy the balance of being calm but losing your temper at the right moment. It makes what you say more impactful,” Courtois added.
