Liverpool’s English defender, Joe Gomez, will be sidelined for several weeks.
It seems like injuries are continuously plaguing Gomez. After recovering and playing his first match back, he’s once again suffered a hamstring injury, forcing him to be out for several more weeks.
Liverpool will face Aston Villa in the Premier League on Wednesday. In a press conference the day before, coach Arne Slot confirmed that the 27-year-old defender would be missing due to this injury.
Gomez had initially been sidelined earlier this year because of a hamstring issue. He made his return to Liverpool’s lineup earlier this month, but unfortunately, he has once again strained his hamstring.
In the fourth round of the FA Cup, during the match against Plymouth, Gomez played only 11 minutes before being forced off the field. He was also absent from Liverpool’s last two matches. Slot confirmed that Gomez will be out for an extended period.
“Joe Gomez will need quite a bit of time to recover. He’ll be out for several weeks due to the hamstring injury,” said Slot.
Since joining Liverpool in 2015, Gomez may need surgery, according to Slot. This could mean he will miss most of the remainder of the season.
Liverpool is currently leading the Premier League, with 60 points from 25 matches, 7 points ahead of second-placed Arsenal.
