Aston Villa 2 – 1 Chelsea
Chelsea’s disappointing journey continues as Enzo Fernandez’s side stumbles again, unable to recover from consecutive losses.
The match started with Chelsea taking the lead early on, but they couldn’t hold onto it or break free from their struggles. Marco Asensio’s brace secured a memorable win for Aston Villa, who triumphed 2-1 at Villa Park in a Premier League clash on Saturday.
Chelsea, with 43 points from 26 matches, sits in 6th place. Villa’s important win pushes them into 7th with 42 points, although they have played one more game.
In the 9th minute, Chelsea took the lead when Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernandez converted a pass from Pedro Neto, scoring with a left-foot shot. They went into halftime with that lead.
Both teams wasted several opportunities before Villa equalized in the 57th minute. Asensio capitalized on a pass from Marcus Rashford, and despite initially being flagged offside, the referee awarded the goal after reviewing it with VAR.
Villa took the lead with another goal late in the match, just a minute before time. The goal came from a powerful shot by Asensio, assisted once again by Rashford. Chelsea goalkeeper Filip Jørgensen, who should’ve saved the shot, allowed the ball to slip through his hands and into the net.
While Chelsea started the season strong, their form has since faltered. This marks their third consecutive defeat across all competitions, and their second consecutive loss in the league. In their last 12 matches, they have only won three times, with just two wins in the last 10 Premier League rounds.
In another match of the day, Arsenal lost 1-0 at home to West Ham United. Arsenal is in 2nd place with 53 points from 26 matches, 8 points behind Liverpool at the top.
