Although Liverpool took another step towards reclaiming the league title, coach Arna Slot is not resting on his laurels.
By defeating Manchester City, Liverpool has solidified their position at the top of the league table, now 11 points ahead of second-placed Arsenal. However, Slot isn’t taking the lead for granted. He remains focused on staying vigilant and cautions his team to continue performing with caution.
Liverpool triumphed 2-0 at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday with goals from Mohamed Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai. This victory has moved them closer to reclaiming the league title.
With 64 points from 27 matches, Liverpool leads, while Arsenal has 53 points from one match fewer. Despite the significant gap, Slot keeps his feet firmly on the ground.
“In every league except this one, having an 11-point lead would be comforting,” Slot said.
Arsenal recently lost 1-0 to West Ham United in their last league match. In contrast, Liverpool had to sweat for a win against Wolverhampton Wanderers just the week before. Slot reflects on these tough encounters, highlighting the challenges ahead.
“We’re in a good position, but we also know how difficult the game against Wolves was.”
Liverpool will next face Newcastle United, who sit fifth in the league, at Anfield on Wednesday. In the previous encounter this season, Liverpool drew 3-3 away. Slot anticipates another tough match ahead.
“We’re now playing Newcastle, and we drew 3-3 at their place. In my opinion, that was a good result, but we also learned how difficult it is to play against them.”
