During their practice session, national football team players prayed for the recovery of Tamim Iqbal.
The news of cricket star Tamim Iqbal’s illness reached Shillong and the national football team. Ahead of their final practice before the India match, they prayed for the well-being of the country’s best-ever opener.
Javier Cabera’s team will face India in the third round of the Asian Cup on Tuesday. On Monday, for the first time, Jamal Bhuiyan, Hamza Chowdhury, and others practiced on the grass field at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, the match venue.
They had been forced to practice on turf fields for the past few days, so being able to return to the grass field was a relief. However, they were deeply concerned upon hearing about Tamim’s condition. Standing on the field, they prayed for the speedy recovery of the Mohammedan Sporting Club captain.
On Monday, during the Dhaka Premier League match between Shinepukur Cricket Club and Mohammedan at BKSP’s field 3 in Savar, Tamim fell ill shortly after the toss. After visiting the hospital once, he tried to prepare for the game, but later suffered a massive heart attack and lost consciousness on the field.
He was quickly admitted to KPJ Specialized Hospital and Nursing College in Savar. An angiogram revealed a blockage in his heart, and a stent was immediately placed.
Tamim is now feeling a bit better and has regained consciousness. He is communicating with his doctors and family members. He will remain under observation for 48 hours, as this time is critical after stenting, according to the doctors.
