Argentina Secures 2026 World Cup Spot as Bolivia, Uruguay End in Stalemate
Bolivia couldn’t make the most of their home advantage, while Uruguay unleashed waves of attacks but failed to find the net. However, their goalless draw turned out to be a blessing for Argentina, as the reigning world champions officially booked their spot in the 2026 World Cup.
The World Cup qualifier at Bolivia’s La Paz on Wednesday night ended in a 0-0 draw.
Uruguay dominated the match with over 65% possession, firing 32 shots with seven on target. In contrast, Bolivia managed 11 shots but failed to hit the target even once.
In the South American qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, the top six teams will directly qualify for the main event. With this result, Argentina secured their spot, sitting comfortably at the top with 28 points from 13 matches.
Uruguay remains in fourth place with 21 points from 14 matches. Brazil, with the same 21 points but from 13 matches, holds third place.
Meanwhile, Bolivia is seventh with 14 points from 14 matches.
