Since Brazil’s 4-1 loss to Argentina, the countdown to Diniz Junior’s departure has been ticking. An announcement of his exit could come at any moment. Reports suggest that Carlo Ancelotti taking over the Brazil national team is almost certain — only the formalities remain.

However, there are still uncertainties. This isn’t the first time Ancelotti has been linked with the job. Previously, many expected him to leave Real Madrid, but in a surprising turn of events, he renewed his contract, and Brazil appointed Diniz instead.

To avoid another setback, Brazil has prepared a “Plan B.” If Ancelotti doesn’t join, Jorge Jesus is next in line. Jesus is familiar with Brazilian football culture, making him a strong alternative.

One major hurdle for Ancelotti is his current contract with Real Madrid, which runs until 2026. This could complicate his move to Brazil. Meanwhile, Jorge Jesus has a contract with Al Hilal until the end of this season, meaning he could take over Brazil without legal complications. He may even join before the Club World Cup if he ends his contract early.

However, Jorge Jesus brings his own set of challenges. His relationship with Neymar at Al Hilal was reportedly strained. In February, Neymar publicly expressed his disappointment, saying, “I was disappointed with Jorge Jesus when he said I’m not in the same position as the rest of the team.”

Many believe this conflict could be a roadblock for Jesus’s appointment. Yet, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) may try to unite everyone for the greater good.

Despite having a backup plan, CBF’s primary focus remains on Ancelotti. CBF president Ednaldo Rodrigues is a big fan of the Italian coach. With the 2026 World Cup approaching, Brazil needs an experienced manager, and Ancelotti fits the bill perfectly.

Some speculate that Real Madrid’s contract may not be an issue in the end. Even though his contract runs until 2026, many believe Ancelotti will leave after the Club World Cup — even if Brazil doesn’t come calling. If all goes well, Brazil might formalize the deal with Ancelotti right after the Club World Cup.
