Although Barcelona were held to a draw by Real Betis, head coach Hansi Flick expressed satisfaction with both the team’s performance and their current position in the league standings.
Barça had a golden opportunity to go six points clear at the top, which could have virtually sealed the La Liga title race. But they couldn’t take full advantage. Still, Flick isn’t dwelling on missed chances. He’s pleased with how his team played and where they currently stand.
After watching Real Madrid suffer a defeat to Valencia on Saturday, Barcelona had the perfect chance to widen the gap. A win would have seen them go six points ahead of second-placed Madrid. However, at Camp Nou, they were held to a 1-1 draw by Real Betis.
Barcelona started strong with Gavi scoring in the 7th minute to give them the lead. But Betis struck back around ten minutes later, leveling the match. No more goals were scored for the remainder of the game.
Barça created plenty of chances throughout the match, but their attacking unit—normally in fine form—was surprisingly ineffective this time.
Flick accepted the result with calmness, acknowledging that sometimes things just don’t go your way.
“We tried everything to win, but we couldn’t. Luck wasn’t on our side in front of goal. But overall, we played well.”
“These kinds of days happen sometimes, when no matter what you do, you just can’t find the net. You have to accept it and look at the positives. I’m satisfied that we gave our all and dominated.”
Despite failing to win, Barcelona remain unbeaten in 2025. They are now four points ahead of Real Madrid at the top of La Liga. They’ll face Madrid in the Copa del Rey final on April 26 and have already advanced to the Champions League quarter-finals.
Flick is proud of the progress and consistency his team has shown.
“The way we’ve played in recent matches and what we’ve achieved—we can be proud of it. We’ve reached the cup final, and even after today’s draw, we’ve extended our lead at the top of the table. I’m happy. We’re in a very good position.”
Barcelona’s next challenge is against Borussia Dortmund in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final this coming Wednesday.
