Hamza Chowdhury made his debut for Bangladesh in the red and green jersey on March 25 in Shillong against India. Since then, discussions have been ongoing about his home debut, with the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) hoping it will take place at the National Stadium.
Bangladesh’s next match in the Asian Cup qualifiers is on June 10. If the match is held at the National Stadium, it will allow football fans in the country to enjoy Hamza’s home debut in style. However, ongoing renovations at the stadium have caused some uncertainty. Despite this, Youth and Sports Advisor Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan doesn’t foresee any issues with hosting the Singapore match at the National Stadium.
Today, to mark National and International Sports Day, a friendly match was held at the National Stadium with underprivileged children in attendance. When asked by reporters, the sports advisor responded, “The work is almost finished. I’ve spoken with Tabith Bhai (BFF President). The BFF will do a little more work on the grass. Our lighting and other work are also nearing completion. I’ve been informed that the ground will be ready within a month. I don’t see any issues with hosting the match.”
Present at the friendly match event were BFF Vice-President and Chairman of the Government Relations Committee Wahiduddin Chowdhury, along with BFF General Secretary Imran Hossain.
On behalf of the BFF, a request has been made not to allocate the National Stadium’s field to anyone else for the next one to one and a half months. As Imran mentioned, “We want to start the fieldwork from tomorrow. We’ve also requested that no one else be allotted the stadium during the next month to one and a half months. We hope to complete the work and other tasks within the scheduled time.”
