Joselu doesn’t care who scores or how the goals come — against Arsenal, he just wants Real Madrid to find the net.
The veteran striker has unshakable faith in the power of the Santiago Bernabéu. Joselu believes that if Real Madrid can get an early goal, their beloved home ground will take care of the rest.
He played a crucial role in Madrid’s 15th Champions League triumph last season. Now 35 and playing for Qatari side Al-Gharafa, Joselu shared his thoughts in an interview with Spanish outlet AS while visiting the Lusail MotoGP.
“What do we need to do to beat Arsenal? I think the first thing Real Madrid has to do is score as quickly as possible. If we can do that, Bernabéu will take care of the rest. Even if the game goes into extra time, Madrid will start as the favorite.”
“I’m not thinking about who scores — it doesn’t matter who it is. The most important thing is reaching the semi-finals, not who gets the goal. Like I said, scoring early is key. After that, as always, leave the rest to the Bernabéu.”
Still, it won’t be easy. Madrid are trailing 3-0 after a dominant first-leg defeat in London. The second leg of the quarter-finals will be played at home this Wednesday.
Real Madrid have written countless stories of unbelievable comebacks at the Bernabéu. Joselu is hopeful another chapter will be added.
“Yes, I always believe in comebacks. One thing is clear — if any team has the ability to pull something like this off, it’s Real Madrid.”
“Of course it’s possible. When you’re talking about Real Madrid, there’s always a chance. Like (Toni) Kroos says — it’ll be tough, but if any team can do it, it’s Real Madrid.”
