Before the match, Barcelona’s young sensation Lamine Yamal shared his confidence in beating Real Madrid with his teammate.
Ahead of their Copa del Rey final, Barcelona had already crushed Real Madrid in two consecutive matches, boosting their confidence. Yamal, full of belief, told his teammate Ronald Araujo that Barcelona would win the title-deciding match.
In an exciting, nerve-wracking game in Seville on Saturday, Barcelona defeated Real Madrid 3-2. Pedri’s brilliant goal gave Barcelona an early lead, but they quickly found themselves trailing after conceding two goals in just eight minutes during the second half.
Kylian Mbappé brought Real Madrid level with his first-ever career goal from a direct free-kick, followed by a header from Aurélien Tchouaméni that put Real ahead.
As Barcelona began to feel the pressure of a possible defeat, Ferran Torres equalized. When the match seemed headed for a penalty shootout, Jules Koundé scored a magnificent goal in the 116th minute to give Barcelona the lead, securing the win and sending the Catalan club into jubilation.
This season, Real Madrid has struggled to find answers against Barcelona, losing all three of their encounters. In the previous two matches, Barcelona triumphed with a 4-0 victory in La Liga at Santiago Bernabéu and a 5-2 win in the Spanish Super Cup final.
Yamal, who contributed to the goals from Pedri and Torres, said after the match that he had already known Barcelona would win the final. He explained the reasoning behind his confidence:
“When we were talking in the hotel, I told Ronald, ‘If they score one goal, it’s no problem.'”
“If they score two goals? That’s also fine. They can’t handle us this year, as we’ve shown.”
Barcelona and Real Madrid will face each other again this season. On May 11, their La Liga match could play a crucial role in determining this year’s league champion.
