AFC Bournemouth 1 – 1 Manchester United
Amorim’s team remains in the same position on the league table.
With just about three minutes left of the added nine minutes, it looked like another defeat against Bournemouth was looming. But just then, Rasmus Højlund brought a sigh of relief to the Manchester United camp. Hüben Amorim’s side managed to take a point home.
United drew 1-1 in Sunday’s Premier League match away at Bournemouth.
Antoine Semenyo had given the hosts the lead, but in the dying moments, Højlund stepped up to level the score.
In their last meeting before Christmas, United had suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat at home to Bournemouth. Though they couldn’t fully erase the scars of that loss, this time they at least avoided defeat and ended a two-game losing streak in the league.
However, United’s winless run in the Premier League continues — they have now gone five consecutive matches without a victory. After 34 games, the team sits 14th with 39 points.
Bournemouth are in 10th place with 50 points.
Throughout the season, United have looked disjointed across the pitch. This time, they conceded a goal early on due to a comical defensive error. Dutch defender Patrick Dorgu lost possession in a harmless area inside their own half. After bouncing between two teammates, the ball fell to Ghanaian forward Semenyo, who slotted it home with a low shot.
Conceding in that fashion seemed to jolt United awake from their cycle of failure. They created a few chances in the first half, with the best falling to Alejandro Garnacho — but even when clean through on goal, he couldn’t finish. His slightly lofted shot was brilliantly saved by the goalkeeper.
In the 60th minute, United were saved by luck. Bournemouth forward Dango’s shot from a tight angle hit the post. There was a chance on the rebound too, but Bournemouth failed to capitalize.
Around ten minutes later, Bournemouth suffered a major setback. Brazilian forward Evanilson was shown a straight red card after a reckless foul on United defender Noussair Mazraoui.
With a man advantage, the visitors had a great chance to turn the match around — and they finally broke through in the sixth minute of stoppage time. Inside the box, Manuel Ugarte fired a shot towards goal, and Dutch forward Højlund lightly redirected it with his foot, wrong-footing the goalkeeper and sending the ball into the net.
