Liverpool 2 – 2 Arsenal
Despite taking a two-goal lead, champions Liverpool couldn’t secure the win.
They dominated the first half and stormed ahead with two early goals, but Arsenal fought back brilliantly to snatch a valuable point at Anfield.
Sunday’s Premier League clash ended 2-2 in a thrilling contest that saw Arsenal finish the game with ten men.
Remarkably, the earlier meeting between the two sides at the Emirates also ended in a 2-2 draw.
Liverpool, already crowned champions, now have 83 points from 36 games. Arsenal sit second with 68 points and have strengthened their chances of a top-five finish and a Champions League spot next season under Mikel Arteta.
Cody Gakpo opened the scoring in the 20th minute, and just a minute later, Luis Díaz doubled the lead.
Arsenal responded in the second half, pulling one back through Gabriel Martinelli in the 47th minute. Then, in the 70th minute, Mikel Merino leveled the score with a composed finish, although his night ended early after receiving a second yellow card in the 79th minute.
In stoppage time, Andy Robertson found the net for Liverpool, but the goal was ruled out due to a foul in the buildup.
Elsewhere, Newcastle United moved up to third after beating Chelsea 2-0. They now have 66 points from 36 games, one ahead of Manchester City in fourth.
Chelsea remain fifth with 63 points, just ahead of Aston Villa on goal difference. Nottingham Forest are seventh with 62.
This season, the top five teams in the Premier League will qualify for the Champions League next year.
