Xabi Alonso is set to become the new head coach of Real Madrid, replacing Carlo Ancelotti. A new coach at any club often signals the arrival of fresh talent—and Alonso has already confirmed he plans to bring in several new players to the Santiago Bernabéu. One of those on his list is Argentine midfielder Nico Paz.
Nico Paz, the son of former Argentina defender Pablo Paz who played in the 1998 World Cup, is actually a product of Real Madrid’s academy. He began his football journey at CD San Juan, then moved to Tenerife before joining Real Madrid’s youth setup in 2016.
He made his debut for Real Madrid’s B team in 2022, and by 2023, started appearing for the senior team. However, in 2024, Italian club Como signed him for €6 million. At that time, the contract included a key clause: if Real Madrid wanted him back, they could re-sign him for €9 million.
According to Spanish radio station Cadena COPE, Alonso is now keen to activate that clause to bring Nico Paz back to Madrid. The report adds that, after a strong season in Serie A with Como, Real Madrid is planning to bring him in before the Club World Cup.
The 20-year-old has developed impressively at Como under the guidance of former Spain and Barcelona star Cesc Fàbregas.
