Mohamed Salah wants to extend his playing career as long as possible—but only if the hunger remains. If that inner drive fades, the Liverpool and Egypt star says he won’t hesitate to call it a day earlier than planned.
Now 32, Salah shows no signs of slowing down. In fact, his performances last season were nothing short of spectacular. He played a vital role in Liverpool’s Premier League title chase, leading from the front with goals and assists.
In the 2024–25 Premier League season, Salah featured in all 38 league matches, scoring 29 goals and providing 18 assists—topping both charts. His stellar performances earned him the Premier League Player of the Season award.
Across all competitions, he made 52 appearances, scoring 34 goals and registering 23 assists. His consistency and brilliance were recognized further as he was named the Football Writers’ Association (FWA) Men’s Footballer of the Year.
In an interview with Egyptian TV channel OnSports, Salah shared his ambitions of playing into his 40s.
“If you ask for my opinion, I think I can play until I’m 39 or 40. But if I ever feel that I’ve lost the hunger, I’ll stop playing. I’ve already achieved a lot,” he said.
For much of the past season, Salah’s future at Liverpool was a topic of intense speculation. At one point, he expressed frustration over not receiving a new contract offer. Eventually, last month, he signed a two-year extension with the club.
During that uncertain period, Salah admitted to holding talks with clubs from Saudi Arabia—a revelation he repeated in the interview.
“My contract was almost over, and I was close to moving to Saudi, but in the end, I renewed with Liverpool.”
Despite the Saudi Pro League still keeping in touch, Salah remains committed to Liverpool.
“I still have a good relationship with them and we’re always in contact. Yes, we were talking,” he confirmed.
“I don’t know what will happen in the future, but I’m happy at Liverpool and I’ll be here for the next two years. After that, I’ll see what’s next.”
