Rumors about India’s star pacer Jasprit Bumrah being advised to take “complete rest” have recently circulated, but he has dismissed these claims as completely false.
The story emerged after Bumrah left the field unexpectedly on the second day of the final Test of the Border-Gavaskar series during India’s bowling innings in Sydney. It was later revealed that he had been dealing with a back issue. Bumrah did not return for India’s second innings, and Virat Kohli took over as captain in his absence. Australia won the match by 6 wickets, reclaiming the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with a 3-1 series victory.
Bumrah returned to India from Australia last week and was not included in the squad for the T20 series against England. There are also concerns about his participation in next month’s Champions Trophy.
An article published by The Times of India on Thursday cited a reliable source claiming Bumrah had been advised to take complete rest. This unfounded rumor spread quickly on social media, and on Wednesday, Bumrah shared a post on his Twitter account (now known as X) refuting the claim, calling it “completely false.”
“I know fake news spreads easily, but this made me laugh. The sources are unreliable,” Bumrah said.
The person who shared the post later deleted it.
India’s Champions Trophy campaign will begin on February 20 against Bangladesh, with Pakistan and New Zealand also in their group.
