Experienced coach to aid Australia’s fast bowlers’ development.
Cricket Australia (CA) has appointed former Tasmanian pacer Adam Griffith as the new national pace bowling coach. The 46-year-old will work at Cricket Australia’s ‘Centre of Excellence’ in Brisbane, implementing strategies to enhance the skills of Australian fast bowlers. He will oversee the preparation of national fast bowlers and step in as part of the coaching staff for the Australia ‘A’ team or the senior squad when bowling coach Daniel Vettori is unavailable due to franchise commitments.
Griffith, who claimed 169 wickets in 50 first-class matches, boasts an impressive coaching résumé. He is currently Victoria’s bowling coach and has previously served as head coach for Tasmania and the Hobart Hurricanes. Before that, he worked as an assistant coach under Justin Langer at Western Australia and the Perth Scorchers.
Griffith has also coached in the IPL with Royal Challengers Bangalore and worked with the San Francisco Unicorns in the United States’ Major League Cricket (MLC). Additionally, he briefly worked with Australia’s men’s team during bilateral tours in 2012 and 2016 and the 2019 ODI World Cup.
During his coaching career, Griffith played a key role in developing players like pacer Jhye Richardson and all-rounder Cameron Green during their early days at Western Australia. He also contributed to grooming Riley Meredith and Nathan Ellis for Australia’s white-ball squad and convinced recently debuted Test all-rounder Beau Webster to transition from off-spin to pace bowling.
Before assuming his new role, Griffith will complete the current domestic season as Victoria’s bowling coach. The team is currently second in both the Sheffield Shield and the 50-over competition, the Dean Jones Trophy.
