Before taking the trophy, Tamim Iqbal announced that they will be heading to Barisal on Sunday.
One of the supporters of Fortune Barisal arrived at the stadium holding a placard saying, “Monu launch ready, cup ready?” Another fan even crafted a toy launch out of cardboard. All their wishes were the same: if Fortune Barisal wins the championship, the trophy must be taken to Barisal.
After defeating Chittagong Kings in the final, Tamim Iqbal sent a message to fulfill the fans’ wish. The captain confirmed that they would be traveling to Barisal with the trophy on Sunday.
Barisal won the BPL title for the first time last year. Shortly after the final match, the team’s owner, Mizanur Rahman, announced that they would take the trophy to Barisal by launch.
However, due to various reasons, that plan didn’t come to fruition. This time, ahead of the final, Tamim was asked whether they would take the trophy to Barisal by launch if they won.
After defeating Chittagong at the Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Tamim assured the people of Barisal that their wish would be fulfilled.
“Last time (BPL), we couldn’t come to Barisal after winning. Now we’ve decided that we’ll come on the 9th. I hope everyone in Barisal will be there to welcome us. If everything goes as planned, you’ll be able to see us with the cup on the 9th.”
