The news came like a bittersweet twist. At Arnos Vale, Bangladesh secured a 27-run victory in the second T20, sealing the series with a match to spare. Yet, the joy was short-lived as Soumya Sarkar suffered a finger injury, sidelining him for about three weeks.

Soumya will miss the final T20 against the West Indies on Friday. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed the unfortunate news today through a press release. Soumya injured his right index finger while attempting a catch during the seventh over of the West Indies innings in today’s match at St. Vincent. Following the injury, he couldn’t continue on the field. According to the BCB, Soumya is expected to be out of action for three to four weeks.

The team’s physiotherapist, Bayejidul Islam, shared further details: “During fielding, Soumya’s right index finger was cut, requiring five stitches. Post-match X-rays revealed some dislocation in the injured area. Recovery could take three to four weeks.”

Soumya was not part of the Test squad for the West Indies tour. After failing to score in the first two ODIs, he bounced back with a superb 73 off 73 balls in the final match. He carried that momentum into the first T20 at Arnos Vale, scoring 43 off 32 balls. In yesterday’s second T20, he made a quickfire 18 off 11 deliveries before being run out.
