Zimbabwe is set to play a Test series and a Tri-Nation T20 series at home against South Africa and New Zealand. According to the Managing Director of Zimbabwe Cricket, Givemore Makoni, this is their biggest international home season in recent years.
Zimbabwe will play two Test matches against both visiting teams.
The last time Zimbabwe played a Test against South Africa was in December 2017 at Gabba. The most recent home Test against the Proteas was in 2014.
Zimbabwe’s last Test against New Zealand was in 2016 in Bulawayo.
This year’s domestic international season will kick off with a Test series against South Africa. The first Test will begin on June 28, and the second one will start on July 6. Both matches will be held in Bulawayo.
After the Tests, Zimbabwe will compete in a Tri-Nation series featuring New Zealand and South Africa. The league phase will run from July 14 to 24, with each team playing two matches against each other. The top two teams in the points table will face off in the final on July 26. The entire series will take place in Harare.
Zimbabwe last hosted a Tri-Nation T20 series in July 2018, with Australia and Pakistan as the other two teams. Pakistan won the series.
Following the Tri-Nation T20 series, Zimbabwe will face New Zealand in two Test matches in Bulawayo. These matches will take place on July 30 and August 7.
Makoni sees hosting series against two of the world’s strongest cricket teams as a major achievement for Zimbabwe.
“This is going to be our biggest international home season in years. Being able to test ourselves against two cricketing powerhouses is an incredible opportunity for our players. Hosting Test series against South Africa and New Zealand, as well as a thrilling Tri-Nation T20 series, is a positive step for the development of cricket in Zimbabwe.”
“We are excited to welcome the teams and provide our cricket-loving fans with an outstanding show.”
