He wants to achieve something special as the ‘Director of Cricket’ for London Spirit in England’s Hundred-ball competition.
Just two months after helping Royal Challengers Bengaluru clinch their first IPL title, Mo Bobat has taken on another challenge—this time in The Hundred. He will serve as the Director of Cricket for London Spirit, the same role he held in Bengaluru, where he was one of the unsung architects behind the team’s historic IPL triumph. Known across the cricketing world for his sharp cricketing mind, Bobat is regarded as a strategic mastermind.
His appointment comes after a major ownership change at London Spirit, with the Silicon Valley-based consortium ‘Tech Titans’ acquiring a 49 percent stake in the franchise. Following this change, there had been speculation that the team’s name would also be altered ahead of next season. However, the franchise decided to retain the name, saying it “perfectly reflects the energy, diversity, and cricketing heritage of England’s capital city.”
Bobat previously served as Performance Director for the England national team and, before that, as the ECB’s Player Identification Lead—a role that earned him widespread respect. He played a crucial behind-the-scenes role in building England’s 2019 World Cup-winning ODI side and also contributed to their 2022 T20 World Cup triumph. Altogether, he spent 12 years working for the ECB.
In addition, he has held various roles in cricket leagues around the world. Now, taking charge at London Spirit, Bobat is eager for what lies ahead.
“It’s an honour to take on this role at such an exciting time for London Spirit. Partnering with MCC and the new Tech Titans ownership group presents a fantastic opportunity to shape the cricketing future of this franchise. I’m looking forward to building something special both on and off the field.”
London Spirit is currently coached by Australia’s Justin Langer, with New Zealand’s Kane Williamson as captain. So far this season, they have won one out of their first three matches.
