South Africa’s left-arm spinner has climbed two spots in the ODI bowlers’ rankings.
Keshav Maharaj’s record-breaking bowling in the first ODI against Australia has left a mark on the rankings. The left-arm spinner has reclaimed the top spot among bowlers in this format.
In the latest weekly update of the men’s cricket rankings published on Wednesday, Maharaj moved up two places in the ODI bowlers’ list, reaching 687 rating points. He overtook Sri Lanka’s Maheesh Theekshana (671 points) and India’s Kuldeep Yadav (650 points).
Maharaj played a key role in South Africa’s 98-run victory over Australia in Cairns on Tuesday, taking five wickets for just 33 runs in a full 10-over spell.
His match-winning performance also saw him set a record. He became the first South African spinner to take a five-wicket haul on Australian soil in ODIs.
Maharaj first topped the ODI bowlers’ rankings in November 2023 and was last at the summit in December that year. Since then, he has consistently remained among the top five.
West Indies pacer Jaden Seales jumped 17 spots to 19th place, while Pakistan leg-spinner Abrar Ahmed climbed 18 spots to 43rd.
In the ODI batsmen’s rankings, South Africa’s Aiden Markram and Temba Bavuma made progress. Markram, with a fifty, moved up four places to 21st, and Bavuma gained five spots to reach 23rd.
In a match where his teammates struggled, Mitchell Marsh scored 88 runs for Australia, moving up six spots to 52nd. West Indies’ Shai Hope climbed two places to seventh.
India’s Shubman Gill continues to lead the ODI batsmen’ rankings, while Afghanistan’s Azmatullah Omarzai remains on top among all-rounders.
The latest update also factors in the final match of the Australia–South Africa T20I series. Dewald Brevis, with a destructive fifty, climbed nine spots to joint 12th with Sri Lanka’s Kusal Perera.
Australia’s Marsh improved four places to 25th, while teammate Glenn Maxwell jumped ten spots to 30th.
In T20I rankings, India’s Avishka Sharma leads the batsmen, while New Zealand’s Jacob Duffy tops the bowlers’ list.
Australia pacers Nathan Ellis and Josh Hazlewood also made progress in the bowling rankings. Ellis moved up three places to ninth, while Hazlewood gained two spots to 18th.
India’s Hardik Pandya remains at the top among T20I all-rounders.
