The three-match T20 series will take place in Sharjah.
Ahead of the World Cup, official warm-up matches are a given. Afghanistan and the West Indies have also planned an international series to fine-tune their squads before the tournament. The two teams will face each other in a three-match T20 series in Sharjah.
The T20 World Cup begins on 7 February, while the Afghanistan vs West Indies series is scheduled for 9, 21, and 22 January.
This year’s World Cup will be held across eight venues in India and Sri Lanka. While the venues are finalized, the tournament’s groupings and schedule are yet to be announced.
Miles Bascombe, West Indies’ Director of Cricket, sees the series as a perfect platform to prepare for the World Cup.
“This series provides an ideal platform for our preparation. Playing against a strong opponent in conditions similar to the subcontinent will help sharpen our team coordination and style of play, and it will boost our players’ confidence ahead of similar wickets in India and Sri Lanka,” he said.
Afghanistan and the West Indies have faced each other in eight T20s so far, with the Caribbean team winning five and Afghanistan three. This upcoming bilateral T20 series will be their first in over six years.
In the last T20 World Cup, Afghanistan reached the semi-finals, while the West Indies failed to advance beyond the Super 8 stage on home soil.
