Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski has urged his teammates to improve their mentality to win titles.

After a strong start to the season, Barcelona lost their rhythm, but they showed signs of recovery with an impressive win at the start of the new year. Now, with a trophy within reach, Lewandowski believes the team needs to adopt a winning mindset to secure major titles.

On Sunday, Barcelona will face Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup final. It’s a chance for redemption after last season’s humiliating 4-1 loss to their arch-rivals in the same tournament’s final.

Barcelona’s recent record against Real Madrid, however, offers hope. They thrashed Madrid 4-0 in October in La Liga at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Their season began brightly, winning 11 of their first 12 La Liga games and leading the table. But things took a sharp turn, with just one win in their next seven league matches, including four losses and two draws.

Two of those defeats came at home against significantly weaker opponents, Las Palmas and Leganés. Ahead of the final, Lewandowski highlighted these disappointing losses, stressing the need to move past them to win trophies.

“We can’t say now if we’ll win everything. Of course, we can beat anyone. But to win it all, you also need luck on your side during the season. We have great potential, but beyond ability, we need the right mentality,” Lewandowski said.

“We’ve proven what we’re capable of. But, for example, to win the league title, you have to win the smaller games too. We’ve dropped points… I’m not saying those matches were small, but they might not have seemed significant to people. For us, though, they must be important.”

Barcelona’s struggles in November and December seem behind them, as they started 2025 with a 2-0 win over Athletic Bilbao in the Super Cup semifinals. Lewandowski hopes this momentum continues, with the team focusing on winning every game, big or small, for the rest of the season.

“I hope this year we’ll win those matches too. To win trophies, we need to win both the big games and the smaller ones. For the young players in the team, and for all of us, this is the next step,” he added.

The Spanish Super Cup final, another El Clásico showdown, kicks off on Sunday at 1 a.m. Bangladesh time in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
