Pep Guardiola is not in a rush to bring back the Ballon d’Or-winning midfielder, despite the positive progress of Rodri’s recovery.

Guardiola is thrilled with the midfielder’s recovery from injury and is hopeful to have the key player back before the end of the season.

When Rodri suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury last September, Guardiola had assumed the Spanish star’s season was over. However, the Ballon d’Or winner didn’t give up. After undergoing surgery, Rodri was determined to return to the pitch as quickly as possible.

Rodri has already made significant progress in his recovery, starting individual training, and Guardiola is excited about his improvement. The Manchester City coach is eagerly awaiting his return this season.

“Fans should know, it’s not just them who are excited about his return,” Guardiola said. “He’s touched the ball today. He was in the dressing room… he’s feeling more confident and happy.”

“I didn’t expect this before, but now it looks like he will return before the season ends. He can help us not only in the Club World Cup but also in the Premier League.”

Guardiola, however, made it clear that they won’t rush Rodri’s return, as they don’t want to risk aggravating the injury.

“We have to take it one step at a time. A few weeks ago, I wouldn’t have made the foolish decision to rush him back only for him to get injured again. But yes, he looks good. I’d say, though, he’s still not close to coming back.”

Rodri’s absence has had a noticeable impact on City’s performance this season. The team has lost its rhythm, slipping out of the race for the Premier League title. They were also eliminated from the Champions League after losing both legs in the playoffs.

Currently, City sits in fourth place in the league with 47 points from 27 matches, 20 points behind leaders Liverpool.

With only one trophy left to fight for this season, City is aiming for an FA Cup victory, having reached the quarter-finals.
