FIFA had previously announced that all the earnings from the new format of the Club World Cup would be distributed to clubs worldwide.
The total prize pool for the new format of the Club World Cup, along with the amount each team will receive, has now been revealed. The champion team will be awarded a prize of $125 million.
The competition, featuring 32 clubs, will take place in the United States from June 14 to July 13. FIFA had previously disclosed that the tournament would have a total prize pool of $1 billion. On Wednesday, they announced the prize for the champion team.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino stated, “None of the revenue from this tournament will be kept by FIFA; it will all be distributed among the clubs. FIFA will not even use its reserves for the expenses of this tournament, funds which are reserved for the development of football worldwide through the 211 FIFA member countries.”
Of the $1 billion prize pool, $500 million will be distributed among all the participating clubs. The amount each club receives will be determined based on their sporting and commercial criteria. For example, according to a management system developed by FIFA in collaboration with the European Club Association, larger clubs like Real Madrid and Manchester City will receive more money than smaller clubs.
The remaining $475 million will be awarded based on performance. This means that the teams that win the most matches out of the possible seven will receive a higher share of the prize money.
