With this award, Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has achieved an impressive milestone.

Salah’s pivotal role in Liverpool’s stellar Premier League campaign and their title recovery has earned him recognition as the Football Writers’ Association (FWA) Men’s Footballer of the Year for the third time.

The award is presented annually to the top performer in English football, and on Friday, Salah was announced as the winner for the 2024-25 season.

According to the FWA, Salah received an overwhelming 90% of the votes from over 900 members. This marks the largest margin of victory for the award in this century.

The second-highest number of votes went to Salah’s teammate Virgil van Dijk. Also in the running were Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak and Arsenal’s Declan Rice.

So far, Salah has scored a remarkable 28 goals, leading Liverpool toward the Premier League title with four matches to spare.

Since joining Liverpool in 2017, Salah has helped the club secure its second-ever Premier League title, with these two league trophies being the only ones the team has won in the last three decades.

By winning this award for the third time, Salah has now matched a record held by former French striker Thierry Henry, who won it three times while playing for Arsenal.

The FWA’s Women’s Footballer of the Year award went to Arsenal’s English striker Alessia Russo.

Both winners will receive their awards at a ceremony in London on May 22.
