Mohamed Salah’s outstanding performance in helping Liverpool reclaim the Premier League title made it almost inevitable that he would be recognized as the season’s best player. The Egyptian striker has been named the Premier League Player of the Season for 2024-25.
Though one final round remains in the league, the EPL authorities announced the Player of the Season on Saturday.
This season marked a fresh start for Liverpool under Dutch coach Arne Slot, who took over from Jürgen Klopp. From the very beginning, Slot’s leadership propelled the team forward with great momentum, securing the league title with four matches still to play.
Salah’s consistent goal-scoring and assists have been the cornerstone of the team’s success. He is currently the top scorer of the season with 28 goals and leads the assist charts with 18.
His victory in the Golden Boot race is almost certain. He holds a five-goal lead over Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak, who is second on the scorers’ list, going into the final round.
Unless there’s a dramatic turn of events in Sunday’s final match, Salah will equal the record of the legendary Arsenal star Thierry Henry, who won the Golden Boot four times.
Salah has also set a record this season by being directly involved in the most goals (goals plus assists) in a single 38-match Premier League campaign. He has surpassed the joint record of 44 set by Henry and Erling Haaland.
If he manages at least one goal or assist in the final round, Salah will match the all-time record of 47 goal involvements in a 42-match season, held jointly by greats Andrew Cole and Alan Shearer.
Though Liverpool’s title is already sealed, the team has stumbled in recent matches, losing two and drawing one in their last three games. On Sunday, Salah and van Dijk will face Crystal Palace at Anfield in their final match of the season.
