Erling Haaland struck twice, while Tijjani Reijnders and Houssem Aouar Sherki both scored on their Premier League debuts.
On his very first outing in the league, Reijnders lit up the occasion with a standout performance. Against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Haaland was at his lethal best once again as Manchester City began their title reclamation campaign with ease.
Pep Guardiola’s side opened the new season in style, thrashing Wolves 4-0 away from home on Saturday.
Haaland opened the scoring in the first half before Reijnders doubled the lead. After the break, Haaland added his second, and substitute Sherki marked his debut with a goal.
City dominated possession with nearly 59% of the ball, producing 15 shots with four on target—all converted into goals. Wolves managed nine shots, three of which tested the keeper.
Like Liverpool’s match a day earlier, this game also paid tribute to the late Diogo Jota, who played for both Wolves and Liverpool during his career.
The opening stages were cagey, but City got their first clear chance in the 19th minute. Bernardo Silva’s cross found Haaland in the box, but his header went off target. Minutes later, Wolves thought they had scored through Marshall Munetsi, but it was correctly ruled offside.
City then seized full control between the 34th and 37th minutes, striking twice in quick succession.
Haaland’s opener owed much to Reijnders’ brilliance. After skipping past a defender, the Dutch midfielder flicked a clever pass into the box, where Rico Lewis squared it across for Haaland to tap into an empty net.
Moments later, Reijnders made the scoresheet himself. Latching on to Oscar Bobb’s layoff, he surged forward and hammered a left-footed shot across goal to make it 2-0.
In the 61st minute, Haaland struck again—collecting Reijnders’ through ball and finishing low with his left foot. That took his tally against Wolves to 10 goals in just six Premier League games, including two hat-tricks.
Guardiola replaced Haaland with Sherki in the 73rd minute, and the French winger wasted little time. Just over seven minutes into his debut, he combined with Niko O’Riley before rifling a low shot from outside the box to seal the rout.
Elsewhere, Tottenham beat Burnley 3-0, Sunderland celebrated their Premier League return by defeating West Ham United 3-0, Brighton and Fulham drew 1-1, while Aston Villa and Newcastle played out a goalless stalemate.
