In the new season, Argentina’s young attacking midfielder could feature in Real Madrid’s opening match.
On paper, Franco Mastantuono is still officially a Castilla player. However, the talented Argentine could make his first-team debut for Real Madrid in the season opener. Coach Xabi Alonso hinted at giving the youngster a chance against Osasuna.
Mastantuono joined Real this season from River Plate. Like Vinícius Jr. and Arda Güler before him, his initial placement at the club was with Real Madrid Castilla.
At just 18, and already capped by the Argentina national team, there is no doubt about Mastantuono’s abilities. Alonso suggested the youngster could see action in the very first match of the season.
“From the very first time I spoke with him, I was amazed by his personality. He was just 17 then and extremely confident. He wasn’t afraid to take steps to join Real Madrid.”
“You can see his maturity, ambition, and quality. He will integrate into the team very quickly. Tomorrow he might get some minutes on the pitch. He brings quality and energy to the team. He is attentive in defense and very dynamic. I’ve seen that drive and Argentine fighting spirit in him. He is good with final passes and is at a very high level.”
Real Madrid will kick off their La Liga title defense against Osasuna on Tuesday at Santiago Bernabéu.
