Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Ballon d’Or winner Rodri is ready to play against Tottenham Hotspur.
The experienced Spanish midfielder has fully recovered from injury, and Guardiola expressed his excitement at having him back in the squad. City will face Tottenham at Etihad Stadium on Saturday in their Premier League clash.
Rodri had been sidelined for a long period after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in September 2024. He returned to competitive action in May and played in four matches during the Club World Cup in June-July, helping City in midfield.
Unfortunately, he suffered a new ankle injury during the round of 16 clash against Saudi club Al-Hilal, which City lost 4-3. This setback meant he missed City’s opening 4-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League.
At a press conference ahead of the Tottenham match, Guardiola praised Rodri and shared his excitement at having him back:
“I just want a consistent Rodri, that’s all. I have no doubts about his quality and potential. He is still one of the best players in the world. Consistency comes through week after week of training and matches, and then everything falls into place.”
Guardiola also confirmed that Phil Foden, who missed the Wolverhampton match due to an ankle injury, is now ready to feature against Tottenham.
