The Dutch playmaker has chosen a new home with a long-term contract.
Xavi Simons is ready for a new challenge. The 22-year-old has joined Tottenham Hotspur on a long-term deal from RB Leipzig.
Neither club has officially disclosed the transfer fee. However, according to British media reports, Tottenham have paid €6 million for the young Dutchman, who has earned 22 caps for the Netherlands.
With James Maddison sidelined long-term due to an ACL injury, Tottenham were in the market for a playmaker.
Simons had joined RB Leipzig last January for €5 million on an 18-month deal, with his contract originally set to run until 2027. During his time in Germany, he played 78 matches, scoring 22 goals and assisting 24 more.
Known not just for his attacking ability but also his defensive contributions, Simons is considered one of Europe’s top young talents thanks to his aggressive forward play and knack for regaining possession.
Last season, he scored 10 goals and assisted 7, although Leipzig struggled in Europe and finished seventh in the Bundesliga. Simons’ decision to move has played a key role in shaping his next step.
Tottenham, meanwhile, had a mixed campaign in the Premier League last season but secured a Champions League spot by winning the Europa League. They will face Bournemouth in the Premier League this Saturday.
