Bayer Leverkusen has brought back the former Danish coach to the Bundesliga on a two-year deal.
Kasper Hjulmand has been appointed as the new head coach of Bayer Leverkusen, taking over as the successor to Erik ten Hag.
The Bundesliga club officially announced Hjulmand’s appointment on Monday.
The 53-year-old guided Denmark to the semifinals of Euro 2020, where they lost to England in extra time. After Denmark’s 2-0 defeat to Germany in the last eight of Euro 2024, Hjulmand stepped down, ending a four-year tenure.
Hjulmand previously managed Bundesliga side Mainz in the 2014-15 season. After a long break, he returned to German football as the coach of last season’s Bundesliga runners-up.
This season, Bayer Leverkusen parted ways with ten Hag after just two Bundesliga matches. He had been out of work since being dismissed by Manchester United in October and had joined Leverkusen’s bench temporarily last May when Xabi Alonso moved to Real Madrid.
