However, this will not affect the United States’ participation in next year’s T20 World Cup.
It is a major setback for USA Cricket (USAC) as the International Cricket Council (ICC), the sport’s highest governing body, has suspended their membership.
ESPNcricinfo first reported that the ICC board made this decision following a virtual meeting on Tuesday. The ICC later confirmed the move in a statement on its website.
“This suspension will not impact the United States’ participation in the T20 World Cup scheduled in February next year in India and Sri Lanka.”
In July, during the ICC Annual General Meeting, USAC was given three months to conduct “free and fair elections” and implement “comprehensive” administrative reforms. Just over two months later, the suspension has now been imposed — primarily due to repeated and continuous non-compliance with ICC obligations.
In July, the ICC had already stated that USAC would remain “under observation” as it had been since July 2024. The board had warned that it reserves the right to take action based on the progress of reforms.
Currently, it remains unclear who will oversee cricket administration in the United States.
