Manchester City 5 – 1 Burnley
Manchester City returned to winning ways as Erling Haaland scored twice in the final three minutes to seal a 5-1 victory over Burnley.
Despite dominating possession and creating chances, City struggled with finishing for much of the match. However, fortune favored them with two own goals from Burnley. Haaland’s late brace then wrapped up the win, giving Pep Guardiola’s side a much-needed boost.
The Premier League clash at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday ended 5-1 in City’s favor.
After Maxim Esteve’s own goal put Burnley ahead, Jadon Anthony equalized for City in the first half. In the second half, Matheus Nunes restored City’s lead before Esteve scored his second own goal of the game. Haaland added two more late strikes to complete the rout.
With this win, City move up to third place with 10 points from six matches, including three wins and one draw. Burnley remain 17th with just 4 points from the same number of games.
City had drawn 1-1 with Arsenal in their previous match but went ahead early on Saturday. Jeremy Doku’s shot from outside the box was blocked by the goalkeeper, and Phil Foden’s follow-up effort deflected off Esteve into the net.
Burnley equalized in the 38th minute as Anthony’s close-range shot deflected off Ruben Dias and went in.
City regained the lead in the 61st minute when Nunes struck a powerful volley following a headed pass from Haaland. Four minutes later, Esteve’s second own goal increased City’s lead as Nunes’ shot deflected off him. Esteve became only the sixth player in Premier League history to score two own goals in a single match.
In the dying minutes, Haaland scored his first goal from a Doku pass outside the six-yard box, then added a fifth in the third minute of stoppage time after heading in a loose ball.
Haaland now has eight goals this season, keeping him at the top of the scoring charts.
