Manchester United 2 – 0 Sunderland
Manchester United returned to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over Sunderland at Old Trafford, thanks to first-half goals from Mason Mount and Benjamin Sesko.
After weeks of inconsistency, Ruben Amorim’s side bounced back just one match after their defeat to Brentford. Mount struck early in the 8th minute, controlling Bryan Mbeumo’s cross with his right foot before smashing a powerful left-footed shot into the net.
Sesko doubled the lead in the 31st minute. Sunderland failed to clear a free-kick properly, allowing the Slovenian forward to pounce from close range. It was Sesko’s second goal in as many matches for United.
Despite United’s dominance, Sunderland’s goalkeeper pulled off some fine saves to deny further goals. In terms of possession, both teams were nearly equal, but United made better use of their chances—landing 6 of their 15 shots on target compared to Sunderland’s 3 out of 8.
With this win, United climbed to eighth place in the Premier League table with 10 points from seven games (three wins and a draw). City rivals Manchester City are one place above them on goal difference, having played a game fewer. Sunderland sit sixth with 11 points from seven matches.
