Real Madrid 3–1 Villarreal
Real Madrid moved to the top of La Liga with a strong 3–1 win over Villarreal under Xabi Alonso’s guidance.
After a dull first half, Real Madrid woke up after the break — led by Vinícius Júnior and Kylian Mbappé’s brilliance. Their commanding performance helped the hosts return to winning ways at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Vinícius opened the scoring early in the second half and later doubled the lead from the penalty spot. Villarreal pulled one back, but Mbappé sealed the victory with a late strike.
The visitors were reduced to ten men late in the game, and Mbappé had to be substituted after picking up a knock following his goal.
Real dominated with nearly 70% possession and 26 attempts on goal, seven of which were on target. Villarreal managed just two shots on target from nine attempts.
With their seventh win in eight matches, Real climbed to the top of the table with 21 points. Defending champions Barcelona, who previously led the standings, dropped to second with 19 points but can reclaim the top spot with a win in their next match.
Villarreal, meanwhile, remain third with 16 points after suffering their second defeat of the season.
