A series of defeats has pushed Arna Slot’s Liverpool out of the top ten.
The hope Liverpool had shown at the start of the month has faded further. The team that has been trying to find its rhythm since the beginning of the season was thoroughly outplayed by Nottingham Forest.
At Anfield on Saturday, the Premier League hosts suffered a 3–0 defeat. “Murilo” put the visitors ahead, “Nicolò Savona” doubled the lead, and “Morgan Gibbs-White” sealed the victory with the third goal.
Last season, Liverpool had stumbled against Nottingham Forest in both league encounters—losing 1–0 at home and drawing 1–1 away. This defeat adds to the growing frustration for Slot’s side.
After four consecutive league defeats, Liverpool had briefly returned to winning ways earlier this month against Aston Villa. But that happiness was short-lived as they lost to Real Madrid in the Champions League three days later.
On 9 November, Liverpool had also lost 3–0 at Manchester City, and following the international break, they suffered the same scoreline at home against Nottingham.
With this run of poor form, Liverpool have fallen out of the top ten. After 12 matches, they sit 11th with 18 points from 6 wins. They are eight points behind league leaders Arsenal, who have a game in hand.
Liverpool tried to dominate possession from the start in a bid to get back into the game. In the 8th minute, they had a great chance, but an unmarked “Alexis Mac Allister” saw his shot blocked by Nottingham’s defence. Eight minutes later, “Milos Kerkez” also fired over from 10 yards out, adding to Liverpool’s frustration.
In the 26th minute, “Murilo” forced a diving save from Alisson from outside the D-box, but five minutes later, Liverpool could not keep the ball out.
In the 32nd minute, Nottingham earned their first corner. From the set-piece, Brazilian midfielder “Murilo” controlled a headed pass outside the six-yard box and struck powerfully into the net, leaving Alisson with no chance.
Three minutes later, “Igor Jesus” appeared to score, but the referee disallowed the goal after VAR confirmed the ball touched his hand. Liverpool went into halftime trailing.
In the final five minutes before the break, Alisson denied a header from Mac Allister and a shot from “Mohamed Salah,” leaving Liverpool still behind at the interval.
Just 42 seconds into the second half, Liverpool conceded again. From a slick move down the left, “Savona” collected a cutback from a teammate and fired past the keeper to make it 2–0.
Liverpool continued to dominate possession in the second half but could not create real threats.
Instead, Nottingham put the game beyond reach in the 78th minute. After Alisson saved a powerful shot, “Morgan Gibbs-White” pounced on the rebound and scored with his left foot to make it 3–0.
Liverpool could only manage one more shot on target for the remainder of the match, with no drama added.
Nottingham, who surprised many by finishing seventh last season, are also struggling this year but may have found renewed motivation. They have gone unbeaten in their last three league games, winning two in a row.
The result lifts Nottingham out of the relegation zone. After 12 matches, they sit 16th with 12 points.
