Manchester City now sit six points behind Premier League leaders Arsenal after being held to a 2-2 draw at Tottenham on Sunday. The visitors appeared in control after racing into a two-goal lead in the first half but squandered their advantage in dramatic fashion, losing more ground in the title race.
It took just 11 minutes for City to open the scoring. Yves Bissouma was dispossessed by Bernardo Silva, and Erling Haaland’s loose ball found Rayan Cherki, who surged into the Spurs box and fired into the bottom corner.
Cherki nearly doubled his tally moments later, twisting past sliding challenges from Cristian Romero and Bissouma, only to be denied by an incredible save from Guglielmo Vicario.
City added a second goal on the stroke of half-time. Radu Dragusin’s aimless pass into midfield was intercepted by Rodri, picked up by Silva, and squared for Antoine Semenyo to finish.
After the break, Gianluigi Donnarumma had to make a fine save to deny a powerful strike from his fellow Italian Destiny Udogie as Tottenham pushed for a comeback.
Spurs soon found the net through Dominic Solanke, who raced past City’s backline and slotted home from close range after a pass from Xavi Simons. Replays showed that while Solanke was marginally onside in the build-up, the ball deflected off Marc Guehi’s calf before crossing the line, with City frustrated that no foul was called.
With 20 minutes remaining, Tottenham pulled level in spectacular fashion. Conor Gallagher won possession after Guehi’s header hit Nico Gonzalez, and the former Chelsea midfielder delivered a cross for Solanke, who converted with an audacious scorpion kick that Donnarumma could only get a faint glove to.
Donnarumma then produced superb saves to deny Simons and Wilson Odobert, while Tijjani Reijnders twice headed wide for City, but neither side could find a winner and the points were shared.
