If the allegations of financial policy violations against Manchester City are proven true, the team could face relegation, and this is hinted at by Liverpool’s coach’s playful comment.
Recently, Mohamed Salah’s voice has reflected frustration regarding his uncertain future at Liverpool. After a stunning victory over Manchester City, he mentioned that the match at Anfield could be his last against City. In response to this, Liverpool’s coach, Arna Slott, jokingly said that Salah might have made that comment assuming City could be relegated from the Premier League next season as a punishment.
City’s troubles aren’t limited to the pitch. The team is facing hearings over 115 charges of violating financial regulations. If these allegations are proven true, City could face relegation and additional penalties.
Off the pitch, Manchester City is in turmoil, and Liverpool took full advantage by defeating them 2-0 last Sunday, making a big leap in their quest to reclaim the Premier League title. Salah scored the second goal from the penalty spot and assisted the first goal in that victory.
Salah’s contract with Liverpool is set to expire at the end of this season. Despite being one of the team’s top performers, he has not yet received a new offer from the club. Regarding his future, after the Manchester City match, the Egyptian star striker hinted that he might not play against City again at Anfield.
Liverpool’s next match is against Newcastle United on Wednesday. Ahead of the match, when asked about Salah’s comments, Slott humorously responded without directly addressing the question.
“Mo (Mohamed Salah) might know something about the 115 allegations against City, so he probably thinks City won’t be in the Premier League next season,” Slott said, quickly adding that his comment was a joke.
Slott emphasized, “This answer about Salah’s future is always the same. It’s not the right time to talk about his contract. It was a joke. I was just having fun.”
With the latest win, Liverpool has moved 11 points ahead of Manchester City in the league table. After 13 rounds, Slott’s team sits at the top with 34 points, while Arsenal is second with 25 points. Manchester City, in fifth place, has 23 points.
