Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk is struggling to believe the news that banned substances were found in his test results.
Never in his worst nightmares did Mudryk imagine such a result from a routine urine test. The Chelsea winger is stunned after failing a doping test, something that has left him and the club reeling.
The Premier League club released a statement on Tuesday confirming that the Football Association (FA) informed them about the presence of banned substances in Mudryk’s sample.
Following the test result, the FA has provisionally suspended the Ukrainian winger. However, Mudryk has strongly denied knowingly consuming any prohibited substance.
Chelsea has launched an investigation into how Mudryk failed the doping test. In a statement shared on Instagram, Mudryk expressed his own confusion over the situation.
“This is a massive shock for me because I have never knowingly used any banned substances or broken any rules. I am working closely with my team to understand how this happened.”
“I know I haven’t done anything wrong, and I hope to return to the field soon.”
According to FIFA guidelines, if a player is found guilty of intentionally taking a banned substance, they can face up to a four-year suspension.
Mudryk last played for Chelsea on November 28. He missed the next five matches, with head coach Enzo Maresca stating that his absence was due to illness.
Since joining Stamford Bridge last year, Mudryk has made 73 appearances and scored 10 goals for the club.
