Starting from Wednesday, Mohamed Salah will be able to begin discussions with clubs outside of England.
Time is running out, and in just two days, Salah will be “open” to talks with clubs. But it seems the Liverpool hierarchy isn’t too concerned about this. Perhaps, Salah himself isn’t thinking much about his uncertain future at the moment. After another stellar performance for both his team and himself, he made it clear that a new contract with the club is “far off” for now.
In the final match of the year, Liverpool thrashed West Ham United 5-0 on Sunday. Salah not only scored a goal but also contributed to two more, helping his team extend their lead to 8 points ahead of the second-placed team in the league table.
Salah’s contract with Liverpool expires on June 30, and as per regulations, he will be able to begin talks with any club outside of England starting Wednesday. After June 30, he will become a free agent.
Liverpool’s two other key players, defenders Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, are also entering the final six months of their contracts.
However, despite the growing uncertainty, Salah doesn’t seem too concerned. His continued impressive performances are proof of that. After the West Ham match, the star, who has scored the most goals in the league this season with 17, shared his thoughts with Sky Sports.
“No, we are far from a new contract, and I don’t want to talk about these things in the media. The only thing on my mind is that I want Liverpool to win the league, and I want to be part of it.”
“I will do everything I can to help the team win the title. At the end of the day, I came here to achieve success, and I want to do something in this game. I’ve always been hungry for more success.”
Liverpool is at the top of the league with 45 points from 18 matches, having won 14 and drawn 3. Nottingham Forest, with one match more, is in second place with 37 points.
